Hymen and claymates.

A sheikh in Egypt released an edict making it acceptable (halal) for women to have reconstructive hymen surgery. He also said that the hymen is not a sign of virginity. This is a REALLY big deal. People are freaking out. Here's the article. This sheikh has shunned the cultural phenomenon of virgin=hymen=societal worth.

Jessica and I started clay class last night - a two hour per week journey into the way clay works. We already made three pinchpots each. Our class is us, an older puertorican woman who has lived in humbolt park for 35 years and our teacher - an obese elementary school art teacher with bad breath & who's eyes water constantly and collect dust from the clay.
